When is Ride the Tour?

Followed by the final stage of the Women’s Tour of Scotland [professional cycle race]

How do I enter?

Ride the Tour 70 :  £39.95 plus admin fee of 6% + £1.00 booking fee
Ride the Tour 30 :  £24.95 plus admin fee of 6% + £1.00 booking fee
Ride the Park : £11.95 plus admin fee of 6% + booking fee.  Under 16’s & Over 65’s £4.95 plus admin fee of 6% + booking fee

What is Ride the Tour 30

This is a sportive ride, it is not a race.
This is your opportunity to ride part of the final stage of the Women’s Tour of Scotland.  The ride starts and finishes in the beautiful setting of Holyrood Park, a Royal Park in central Edinburgh.

What is Ride the Tour 70

This is a sportive ride, it is not a race.
This is your opportunity to ride the majority of the final stage of the Women’s Tour of Scotland.
The Ride starts and finishes in the beautiful setting of Holyrood Park, a Royal Park in central Edinburgh.  The route heads south to Blythe Bridge and then east to Peebles and Innerleithen, from where it heads north back to Edinburgh.  The terrain is moderate with just the exposed climb of The Mound between Innerleithen & Middleton on the return.

Can I ride with my friends?

Yes – you will need to enter as a team.

What is the minimum age for the Ride the Tour 70?

Only persons aged 18 years or above at the date of the event may register for Ride the Tour 70.

What is the minimum age for the Ride the Tour 30?

Only persons aged 14 years or above at the date of the event may register for Ride the Tour 30.
All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

What is the minimum age for Ride the Park?

Only persons aged 12 years or above at the date of the event may register for Ride the Park.
All participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Ride the Tour 70 & Ride the Tour 30 will take place on open roads and will be clearly sign posted

Detailed maps of the routes & GPX will also be made available.
Please bear in mind that the roads are public highways, therefore please follow the Highway Code and be respectful of other road users and residents of the communities you may pass through.

Ride the Park

Will take place on closed roads.

What bikes are eligible for the rides?

Bicycles permitted:

  • Standard road and hybrid bicycles
  • Mountain bikes are allowed – please note they will be hard work on this on-road route
  • Single-speed (both fixed and freewheel)  as long as they have two suitable brakes
  • E-bikes – e-bikes are permitted in both events – with no more than 250 watts maximum power
  • Tandems – preference for tandems will be given to riders with a disability.  Participants with disabilities are kindly requested to contact the organisers :  ride@womenstourofscotland.com

Bicycles not permitted:

  • Fixed wheel with no brakes
  • Fixed wheel with only a front brake
  • Towed trailers
  • Child carriers
  • Penny Farthings
  • Quadcycles
  • Handcycles
  • BMX
  • Tag-along trailer bicycles
  • Trailer bicycles
  • Cargo bicycles
  • Specialist time-trail bicycles
  • Stride driven or stand up machines such as elliptical cycles
  • Any bicycle without 360° rider visibility
  • Unicycles
  • Recumbents with full fairing
  • The following handlebars  are not permitted;   (triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, Spinaci bars and cow bars)
  • Handlebars without bar-end plugs are not permitted.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes, helmets are compulsory. Any participant without helmet will be refused permission to start.

Do I get a medal?

Yes, a medal will be produced for all finishers.

How fast do I have to cycle for Ride the Tour 70?

Minimum 15mph.

Will there be food and drink available?

Identified refreshment stops will be available along the routes to include food, drinks, first aid and toilet facilities.

How do I get to the Start in Holyrood Park?

Public transport, walking and cycling will be the best mode of transport please bear in mind that because of the Edinburgh Festival, the City will by busy during this period.

Parking

There will be no parking on Holyrood Park. However there is a Park and Cycle facility @ Sheriffhall Park & Ride Old Dalkeith Road, Dalkeith, EH22 1FF
